Auringard β The long-awaited Vintage Story 1.22 has officially moved into its Release Candidate phase as of March 2026, bringing a massive wave of immersion-focused features. This update, dubbed by many as the "Fishing and Mechanisms" update, fundamentally changes how players interact with the world's water, heat, and mechanical power.
A NEW WAY TO FEED THE SERAPH
The headline feature for 1.22 is a complete fishing overhaul. No longer just a background aesthetic, the worldβs waters are now teeming with over 20 species of freshwater fish.
Mechanical Depth: Players can now craft fishing poles from sticks or bamboo.
Bait & Strategy: Success isn't guaranteed; players must use new crops like fennel and licorice to create "stinkbait."
Dynamic Ecosystems: Over-fishing an area will actually deplete the local population, forcing players to manage their resources or travel to find new honey holes.
THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION: WATERWHEELS AND WINDMILLS
The mechanical power system has received its most significant expansion in years. The introduction of Waterwheels finally allows players to harness the energy of rapids and fast-moving streams.
Key Mechanical Changes:
Large Windmills: New, massive sails provide more power but come with a "turbulence" mechanic, requiring 15 blocks of space between them to remain efficient.
Risk of Fire: In a move toward realism, mechanical blocks can now ignite if they rotate too fast, requiring players to monitor their torque and speed carefully.
In-Wall Axles: Builders can now enjoy cleaner aesthetics with new axles that fit directly into walls.
FORGING AND SURVIVAL REFINEMENTS
The early-to-mid game has become more tactile. The Forge has a new 3D model, and bellows are now a hard requirement for reaching the high temperatures needed for advanced metallurgy.
Tongs: Now have durability; wooden versions break quickly, while metal ones last significantly longer.
Metalworking: You can now heat tool heads directly in the forge rather than just ingots.
New Flora: Four new flowers (Bluebell, Daffodil, etc.) and eight rare mushrooms with unique visual "side effects."
Snow Management: A craftable snow shovel is finally available to clear paths during the harsh winters.
UNDER THE HOOD
Technically, 1.22 marks a major shift as the game now requires the .NET 10 Runtime. This move promises better performance and paves the way for more complex AI and physics in future updates. Players are also reporting visual upgrades to livestock (like pigs) and a more immersive "in-world" interaction system for tasks like scraping hides and carving bone flutes.
